The event will be a two day seminar in which Daniele(Dede) de Luca, a world-class sailor and coach, will educate us. Our main objective is to learn how to get the most from our boat by setting the rig and trimming the sails. This topic is incredibly helpful not only for competitive sailors, but also for hobbyists looking to broaden their knowledge.

Who is Dede?
We will limit the response to a small, most relevant excerpt from his biography as a competitor:
- Two-time grinder/trimmer in the America’s Cup (Italia 1987, Mascalzone Latino 2007)
- Main trimmer on the World champion ORCi TP52 “Enfant Terrible” in 2015
- Olympic competitor in the Soling class at the Sydney Games
- Holder of 23 national, 12 European, and 8 world titles
- Two-time champion with Melges 32 in the Audi Sailing Series
- Competitor in the Extreme Sailing Series
And since a successful competitive career often doesn’t lead to theoretical understanding and teaching abilities, here’s a bit more:
- Sail Coordinator for Italy in the 1987 America’s Cup
- Coach for the Italian Yngling team at the Athens Olympics
- Project manager for the Italian boat in the 2006 America’s Cup
- Sail Coordinator for Mascalzone Latino (The Italian America’s Cup contender in 2007)
- Founder of one of the most innovative sail brands – One Sails
Contents of the seminar
The highlight of the event are the four discussions, planned so that everybody can ask their questions. Apart from that, the structure is as follows. We will begin with the often-overlooked basic theory, with Dede introducing aerodynamics. Then, in order to fully understand the correct settings, we will dive into key information about sail design and materials. After that, we will look into the rig, how it affects the sails and why that is important. Only then we are ready to go into detail about the trimming of different sails in different courses.
